Dentantics 2010: The Laundry Lady.

The Laundry Lady.
“Gurl. He was supposed to meet me last night but he didn’t even show. I cut him, yes I will.”
“Can I get a small size shirt please?” … “How about a lab coat?… See, I gotta walk all the way over there… That’s just crazy gurl.”
Priceless. Without contest, the best skit of the past three years of Dentistry!

Yonge and Dundas was bursting exploding with Canadian pride after the nail-biting gold medal hockey game between Canada and USA that ended the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics just hours prior. Perhaps one of the best hockey games I have ever seen in my entire life which culminated in a sweet, sweet overtime victory with Sidney Crosby, Canada’s golden boy, scoring the golden goal which would be the last golden memory that would end what many have dubbed as Canada’s golden Olympics.
Thriller? Driller.

Faculty of Dentistry, watch out. Dentantics 2010 presents Driller. March 11th and 12th at 7:30PM.
Every year, the third years at the Faculty of Dentistry host a theatrical production that parodies life as a dental student at U of T. This year is our year, and this photo is the result of some amazing teamwork between fellow photographer/classmate, Edwin Chang (aka Michael Jackson, above), and myself. We set up a mini studio shoot in the lobby of our Faculty and the results were stunning. To top it all off, Edwin’s processing of the final photos was fantastic, to say the least – so much so that by the time I got around to processing them, I pretty much processed them exactly the same way haha. Stay tuned because this is merely the beginning of a beautiful partnership.
Special thanks goes out to Elena, Shayna, Elias and Claire – our quintessential zombies!

I just watched Gone With The Wind and wow, this is one movie that timelessly never fails to disappoint, no matter how many times I’ve previously seen it. Perhaps my favorite scene comes right at the end: Scarlett is in ruins after both her daughter and her closest friend have died and the love of her life, Red, has finally decided that he wants absolutely nothing to do with her, famously expressing “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.” Life has never been so bleak or so painful, and she has no one to blame except herself.
But she is Scarlett O’Hara and even in the face of such calamity when most would crumble, when she is crumbling, she finds the fortitude to courageously and optimistically respond “Afterall. Tomorrow is another day.”
Poignant and epic. I love cinema.
Moving Forward.
Dec 31st
As we move forward into 2010, here’s to a sanguine start to the New Year. Personally, I hope that I will continue to grow both as a photographer and as a person.
It’s surreal to think that an entire decade of this second millenia has already passed by! Do you remember the Y2K craze and the worldwide fear of the Y2K bug? For me, the year 2000 was an exciting year, full of anticipation, because it was the year that I turned 14 and could legally drive with a learner’s permit in Alberta - a major milestone in one’s life!! I remember that memorable countdown like it was yesterday. My oh my how time flies and a decade later here we are today.
Have an amazing night and happy New Years!!!
